Client: Fluor Hanford, Inc.
GForce staff designed and managed the fabrication of the bagless transfer system glovebox for installation in the DOE’s Plutonium Finishing Plant at the Hanford Site.
The glovebox system allows plutonium to be sealed directly into stainless steel containers, maintaining an inert atmosphere around the material. This new technology will significantly increase efficiency in handling plutonium and reduce personnel radiation exposure, while providing a packaging system that meets the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board requirements for long-term storage of plutonium.
This fabrication includes the integration of instrument and control systems for the process. Tests include leak tests, hydrostatic and non-destructive examinations. The system will allow for the accelerated stabilization of plutonium and allow the client to meet DOE’s performance goals ahead of schedule.
